We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter, communities, and hope.
Welcome Home. Comal Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home.
We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. We believe that affordable housing is necessary for growing communities, like Comal County. And we believe that you have a role to play: shop, donate, or volunteer today. Your neighbors are counting on you.
The New Braunfels Workforce Housing Advisory Committee revealed that 35% of New Braunfels households are considered “cost-burdened,” with over 30% of their income going to housing costs. In 2019 households in Comal would have had to work 91 hours per week at minimum wage to afford a one-bedroom apartment priced on average at $1,015 per month at fair market rent. This was an increase from 85 hours needed per week in 2018, which reflects the growing housing rental prices. For single-family households or elderly residents without a steady income, or on a fixed low income, this amount is simply out of reach.
This Habitat for Humanity chapter servicing Comal County provides housing at a total cost that is $300 -$700 per month and builds homes valued at less than half of the national average. Comal County Habitat is performing a much needed service. The need for our work will only increase as housing prices continue to creep (and sometimes leap) higher. In 2019 CCHFH saw an increased need for assistance with affordable home repairs for low income families. With support from our community, we expanded our services to include repairs for deteriorating homes, allowing more of our neighbors to live in safe, decent shelter.
