Our Vision
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Our Mission
Seeking to puts God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Our Principles
We undertake our work to demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus, acting in all ways in accord with the belief that God’s love and grace abound for all, and that we must be “hands and feet” of that love and grace in our world. We believe that, through faith, the miniscule can be multiplied to accomplish the magnificent, and that, in faith, respectful relationships can grow among all people.
We have chosen, as our means of manifesting God’s love, to create opportunities for all people to live in decent, durable shelter. We put faith into action by helping to build, renovate or preserve homes, and by partnering with others to accelerate and broaden access to affordable housing as a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty.
In response to the prophet Micah’s call to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God, we promote decent, affordable housing for all, and we support the global community’s commitment to housing as a basic human right. We will advocate for just and fair housing policy to eliminate the constraints that contribute to poverty housing. And, in all of our work, we will seek to put shelter on hearts and minds in such powerful ways that poverty housing becomes socially, politically and religiously unacceptable.
We believe that no one lives in dignity until everyone can live in dignity. We believe that every person has something to contribute and something to gain from creating communities in which all people have decent, affordable places to live. We believe that dignity and hope are best achieved through equitable, accountable partnerships.
We view our work as successful when it transforms lives and promotes positive and lasting social, economic and spiritual change within a community; when it is based on mutual trust and fully shared accomplishment; and when it demonstrates responsible stewardship of all resources entrusted to us.
Who we are
Comal County Habitat for Humanity was incorporated in Texas as a non-profit corporation on September 6th, 1993 and is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are recognized by the IRS and are certified as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We have built over 50 homes in Comal County — all side-by-side with our community and partner Habitat homebuyers. Habitat homes are not subsidized homes or supported under any federal program. Instead, they are supported by our local community that lends a hand UP by donating funds, labor, materials, land, construction services, and volunteering.
Affordable Housing all over the U.S., and particularly in Comal County, is at an all-time low accessibility. A study done by the National Low Income Housing Coalition in 2024 revealed that 906,885 renters households in Texas are extremely low income, spending more than 30% of their income on housing and utilities. According to a study done by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2024, a one-person household would have to make at least $22.16 an hour in order to be able to afford housing and other expenses.
The steady influx of new residents in the area has increased median home prices consistently, with home sales in the San Antonio-New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area increasing 16.6% in March of 2021. Most notably, the average home sales price in Comal County rose 18.1% to $418,318, with the median price reaching $330,533, a 7.9% increase year-over-year.
Comal County Habitat for Humanity provides affordable housing to partner families based on their income. Together with the community, Comal County Habitat is performing a much-needed service. As your local Habitat for Humanity, we are working on many critical projects and initiatives — building and repairing homes, closing on real estate projects and breaking ground on others! The need for our work will only increase as housing prices continue to creep (and sometimes leap) higher.
We call for support from community members like you to address the pressing issue of housing insecurities. The time to take decisive action is now. By shopping at our ReStore, donating items, volunteering your time, or making financial contributions, you will directly impact the lives of our partner Habitat families striving for affordable homeownership. Your support and dedication are crucial in our mission to create stable, sustainable housing solutions. Through community support and collective effort, we can pave the way for brighter futures and stronger neighborhoods.
Thank you for supporting Comal County Habitat for Humanity!
