ReStore FAQs

What is a Habitat for Humanity ReStore?

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers. The items we sell are available to the public and similar to what you might see in other home good stores, such as furniture, appliances, hardware or vintage treasures you won’t find anywhere else. However, Habitat ReStores are more than just resell stores.

What happens with my donation?

Material donations are not directly incorporated into homes constructed by Habitat. Rather, we channel these generous donations to our ReStore, where they are sold at an affordable cost to our community. ReStore purchases generate a valuable revenue stream that allows Comal County Habitat for Humanity to build more decent, affordable homes with our partner Habitat families. By donating, you are not only supporting Habitat’s mission to build homes but also providing materials for other families in Comal County to complete their home improvement projects affordably.

What donations does Habitat ReStore accept?

We accept gently used or new household items or building materials, which include a wide variety of products. You can find our complete list of items we are currently accepting HERE.

Can you pick up my donation? And is there a fee?

At Comal County Habitat for Humanity ReStore, we provide a complimentary pick-up service. While there’s no required fee, we welcome donations to help us cover transportation costs. Any contributions made to Habitat are greatly appreciated. The more we save on costs, the more we can do for families in Comal County.

Can the ReStore pick up donations that are inside my home?

All donations will need to be placed outside – easily accessible on the driveway, porch, garage, or curbside – on your scheduled pick-up day. Assistance in loading items onto the truck will not be required. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Does the ReStore repair donated items and materials?

Unfortunately, we do not have the resources at this time to repair or touch up items, which is why we can only accept gently used donations that are in good, working condition.

Can I purchase items from the ReStore and store them overnight?

To ensure our ReStore is continuously receiving donation items, we do not offer any overnight storage. We do, however, offer a delivery service for large items purchased. Fees within New Braunfels city limits are $40 and within Comal County $60.

Can I get a refund on my purchase from the ReStore?

ReStore refund policy is accepted only as store credit. Items eligible for a store credit refund are appliances and electrical merchandise and must show proof of purchase within 7 days of the refund date. Please note that store credit refunds may only be processed by our ReStore Manager. Items not eligible for a store credit refund are final sale.

How do I count my donation as a tax deduction if I have a scheduled pick-up?

After your items have been loaded onto our truck, our drivers will provide you with a receipt of the donated items received. Legally, Habitat cannot appraise your donation(s), so all donors must fill out the estimated value on the receipt. Please consult your tax professional for any guidance on tax deductions.
